The origin of this new activity

A GPS treasure hunt was originally inspired by a very real sport that might as well be a way of life in Scandinavia: orienteering. With this, the goal is to cover a large area of land in the middle of the great outdoors with just a (paper) map, a compass and a backpack.

The challenge is hunting down various landmarks – some of which are hidden in certain places – and finding them in the correct order as quickly as possible, mostly through a combination of walking and running. It is a very demanding activity since you need to master space, time and three-dimensional orientation (take stock of where you are on the map, find an azimuth and a specific landmark on the ground to quickly find your way) and put in 110% effort!

Treasure hunting is now a full sport!
By now, you know that any smartphone contains a GPS chip that allows you to establish where you are in the world (in the open air) quite accurately. We have prepared several routes that include landmarks to find. But pay attention, because you will need to show proof to the Bureau des Moniteurs du Gard that you have found the landmarks, either by solving riddles or showing them your photos!
