A GPS treasure hunt is a really original, sporty and fun way for you to get to know the surrounding landscape. You might not have been familiar with the region until then, so this allows you to really get to know places in an authentic way, while also having fun! If you are a fan of Geocaching, this outdoor activity is perfect for you! Embark on new expeditions in search of adventures with your friends or family.
The Bureau des Moniteurs du Gard plays as well, and can create a new course for you at the site of your choice. Here are some ideas to help inspire you:
A GPS treasure hunt was originally inspired by a very real sport that might as well be a way of life in Scandinavia: orienteering. With this, the goal is to cover a large area of land in the middle of the great outdoors with just a (paper) map, a compass and a backpack.
The challenge is hunting down various landmarks – some of which are hidden in certain places – and finding them in the correct order as quickly as possible, mostly through a combination of walking and running. It is a very demanding activity since you need to master space, time and three-dimensional orientation (take stock of where you are on the map, find an azimuth and a specific landmark on the ground to quickly find your way) and put in 110% effort!
