Via ferrata: an outdoor sporting activity suitable for beginners through to experts, which is guaranteed to deliver thrills aplenty!

It’s something that can be enjoyed with family, friends, or as an individual. Your safety is ensured by custom systems specifically designed for the purpose – including harnesses, ropes, shock absorbing lanyards, gloves and much more – although you still have to be super vigilant at all times!

 

The courses on offer can be adapted to suit beginners, seasoned sportspeople, as well as experienced practitioners.

 

Trying this for the first time? The Bureau des Moniteurs du Gard can accompany you along the route, showing you the correct moves and teaching you how to do this activity in complete safety, while also making the very most of it. Done this before? Hire a full kit and take a topographic map with you, before setting off on your adventure.

A sporty route with two courses set up by the Bureau des Moniteurs du Gard in Collias
Two pleasant and sensational via-ferrata courses can be found along the cliffs, next to the Gardon river. Created in their entirety by the team at the Bureau des Moniteurs du Gard, these courses allow you to tackle ladders, steps, monkey bridges, footbridges and, for one last surprise at the finish, even a 40-metre abseil. And all of this is set against the rejuvenating backdrop of the Gorges du Gardon between Uzès and the Pont du Gard.
Via ferrata with children
Children can have a go at this from a certain age (any equipment that is hired should be able to be adapted to the fact they weigh less). You will need to bring along suitable clothing and footwear for climbing, as well as a snack and a small bottle of water.
Some parts of the course involve abseiling and the use of zip lines. You will quickly get the hang of the main safety techniques, meaning you can soon enjoy this sporting outdoor activity in complete safety. It normally takes several hours to complete a course.

Practical information on the via ferrata in Collias:
  • Allow about 3 hours for the route
  • It’s the perfect activity to do on Mistral days: the south-facing cliff is sheltered from the wind.
  • In summer, it’s best to leave early (8.30 am on request) or after 3.30 pm in order to avoid the heat.
  • Course open all year round
