Your checklist to prepare your Canoe-Kayak trip on the Gardon.
What to expect:
Sun protection: you will need a cap or hat, anti-UV care, sun cream; be careful, the sun in the south of France is very hot!
Closed shoes for swimming: the pebbles in the Gardon are slippery and can hurt.
water (lots of water!)
Picnic: store this in the waterproof containers at the back of the craft.
swimsuit: because you won’t be able to resist the call to go swimming, just wait and see...!
Glasses cord: if they fall into the water you can say goodbye to them forever...
Pour les descente au printemps ou automne
Remember to take a windbreaker. If necessary, the Bureau des Moniteurs du Gard can rent wetsuits and neoprene socks.
what’s in for you :
Watertight containers: even if they are watertight, we would not advise you to take valuable objects with you (cameras, gopro, cameras, smartphone, tablets, jewellery, etc...). *
Of course, there are also 1, 2, 3 and 4-seater canoes (this is much better for the trip!). The 3 and 4-seater canoes can accommodate 2 adults and 1 to 2 children under 12 years of age.
Single or double paddle
Buoyancy aids: we're throwing you in the water!
Wearing a waistcoat is still compulsory: it might not be great for your tan, but safety has to come first!
Pre-requisites:
Although our courses are accessible to the whole family, it is important that you you know it is still necessary to :
Be able to swim 25 metres and immerse
Be at least 5 years old and under the responsibility of an adult
Be in good physical condition
Be an initiate for routes longer than 12 km
The team's advice:
Because we're such nice people at the Bureau des Moniteurs du Gard and we really want you to enjoy your descent, here are some hints and tips:
Position the strongest and most experienced person at the back.
When I paddle to the right, I tend up turning to the left (even more so in an arc).
If I push the water forwards to the right, I go to... the right. (This is effective when I have a little bit of speed).
Place your feet firmly on the foot rests for extra tone.
*The waterproof tightness of the containers cannot be 100% guaranteed. The BMG cannot be held responsible for the total or partial destruction or loss of objects and personal effects that are transported in containers and boats.
